Many
years ago, two angels are banished
from heaven forever for
disobeying God's plan. In 1999, they
discover a loophole that will allow
them to get back into heaven. This
sets them on a trip from Wisconsin
to New Jersey. One problem: this
same loophole will also destroy creation.
So they are pursued by forces from
both Heavenv and Hell to stop them.
Dogma
has a lot to offer. Crude humor,
poetic justice and religious criticism
are just a few of them. Despite protesters
at the tickets lines of this film,
it never really slays the Catholic
Church, but Dogma does shake it's
finger at religion and says, "Isn't
it time we straightened some things
out."
There
is a terrific cast here that also
features cameos from Janeane Garafalo
and singer, Alanis Morrisette, who
plays God. The film does get a bit
caught up in itself with some over
cooked monologues, but it also does
a good job of sitting on the fence
between being an over intelligent
satire and a down 'n dirty comedy.
Directed by Kevin Smith.
