A fourty-something father with an unstable wife and a rebellious teen abandons all adult responsibility while going through a mid-life crisis.
There's a lot of commentary happening here. Life, love, sexuality and self-respect are only a few of the topics tackled. It is a little heavy on social commentary but the multilevel plot serves to more than just that. There's also some great one-liners and more than a few sticky situations to keep an audience entertained.
One could write volumes on this film but we'll try to sum it up here in a few lines. If you can deal with the social commentary which, while thick, does add to the film, you'll find a funny, poignant drama that deals with the problems of teens as much as it does with those of adults.
Winner of 5 Oscars including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director.
